Canterbury Chess Club

The club is closed for the remaining Wednesdays for 2025 and will return in January 2026 (exact date TBC).

Social chess for members and non-members alike will continue each week on Thursday nights, with the last night for 2025 running on 18 December. Usual times apply i.e. open from 6pm till ~9pm (first night free, $2/night after that). Beginners are welcome.

Junior coaching and open tournaments will continue in 2026 - keep an eye on the club website, Facebook page, and email correspondence in early 2026 for details and sign-up information.

We offer tournaments for members on Wednesday nights - clubrooms open around 7pm, games start at 7.30pm. There are a range of different tournaments (with different time controls) - all classical and some rapid time control tournaments are NZCF rated. We also offer open social chess nights for members and non-members alike. These run every Thursday night from 6pm till ~9pm (first night free, $2/night after that). Beginners are welcome.

Our address is Unit 9, 27 Tyne Street, Addington, Christchurch. Off street parking is available from 6pm and on weekends.
